Letter and a Dollhouse

March 26th, 2010 No comments

The old adage used to be “my dog ate my homework.” Now that phrase seems to be heading toward “my daughter drew all over the box,” or at least that is what our customers are telling us.

One of our customers recently had to return a Broan fan he purchased from us. Unfortunately his 4 year old daughter got a hold of the box first and made it into a dollhouse, complete with a door and covered in jewels. We were able to work with him, and allow him to return the fan in a new box. In return, he was gracious enough to send us a picture of the beautiful dollhouse that his daughter created.

New Year, New Office, New Business Cards

January 14th, 2010 No comments

Ok so 2 of those 3 statements are correct.  It has been over a year since we have moved into our new offices in Boulder, CO, but it took us this long to update/design/order/print/receive our brand spankin’ new business cards.  I, for one, think they are awesome and wish more people would have their picture included with their contact information on their business cards.  Adding that small little detail would be great for someone like me that has a hard time putting names to faces.

The first day we got these cards, we were all running around the office exchanging our cards with one another like they were baseball cards. Since these cards are so unique to every person, they have become collectibles. We are lucky enough to have an in-house photographer who was able to capture each employee’s personality with just one photo. These business cards have become more than just a way to exchange contact information. They start to tell you who we are.

Not that our old cards were not nice also, but I am definitely looking forward to giving out these new cards to watch people’s reactions!

Just to give you an idea of what a change this is, here is an example of my new card:

Snow Grillin’ at DrillSpot

What do you do when you are craving a steak for lunch, but it is snowing and you do not want to go somewhere expensive? Well if you are Paul (our CEO), you go out, buy some steaks and grill at the office!

Yesterday it snowed in Boulder all day long, but that didn’t stop Paul and Shad from using my Weber Q120 Grill and grilling up some steaks, zucchini and building miniature snowmen.

They were nice enough to share with everyone else at the office, and let me tell you, it was a delicious as it looks!

The Santa of DrillSpot

November 25th, 2009 No comments

While scrolling through the list of orders we have on any given day the products that sell can range from tool boxes to cooking supplies, but one thing we (as DrillSpot employees) love is watching which seasonal items sell.  One of the Christmas decor staples over the last 3 years has been the Air Blown Sitting Santa.

Air Blown Sitting Santa

We have sold hundreds of these inflatable Santas to anywhere from Florida to Saint Louis. Since this item ships from our warehouse in Denver, and our headquarters are in Boulder we have never seen this item in real life, but have all been wishing for a customer to return one.  Finally after 3 years we had a customer send one back to us (all returns come back to our headquarters). It really was like Christmas in the office!  Jennifer and I could not open the box and set up Santa fast enough (we have to check to make sure it is in working condition after all).  After we plugged him in, we were amazed at how quiet the built in fan was, not much more sound than my space heater.  As he sits in his big green chair, his constantly waves to everyone and even has built in songs and voice recordings.  The recordings are sound activated so all you have to do is clap (or yell) and he starts laughing, saying “Ho, Ho, Ho” or playing Christmas music.

Since his unboxing, Santa has traveled all of the office in hopes of catching us at our worst (it hasn’t happened yet).  He has sat in for Paul our CEO while Paul traveled through Spain:

Sat behind Leo to make sure he did not make any mistakes while programming:

He is even waiting patiently in Brandi’s office to help celebrate her birthday!

After traveling from one corner of our office to the other (including hiding in the bathrooms – that was a fun day) he has now found his spot right in front of the door, ready to greet anyone that comes to DrillSpot.
