DrillSpot.com’s Sales Up 91 Percent

February 3rd, 2009 No comments

BOULDER, Colo. –DrillSpot.com nearly doubled its January sales compared to the same month in 2008. The online retailer, which specializes in home improvement products, opened just three years ago and has rapidly grown a customer base of 350,000. Revenue approached $8 million in 2008 alone, and DrillSpot.com projects sales of $15 to $20 million this year.  As the U.S. slumped deeper into recession late last year, DrillSpot.com tripled their Boulder, Colorado office space to 10,000 square feet and is currently adding three new positions to their existing 17 employees.

Traffic to DrillSpot.com was up 56 percent to 493,000 visitors in January from the same time period last year. Searches through Google Product Search resulted in close to 200,000 visits to DrillSpot.com in December 2008—that’s more than half the number of Google Product Search visits to e-commerce heavy-hitter Zappos.com in December 2007, when holiday spending was stronger.

Paul Lin, the company’s 28-year-old founder and CEO, believes tighter budgets have inspired consumers to opt for the do-it-yourself approach, and recent high fuel costs have facilitated a consumer migration to the web.

Yet buying trends have not been the sole cause of DrillSpot.com’s momentum. Many budget-conscious consumers have turned to DrillSpot.com for exceptional customer service and competitive prices. Most products are delivered to their final destination within 48 hours, and customers rate the website highly on Google—out of 689 reviews, the company averaged 4.7 stars on a 5-star scale.

“(DrillSpot.com’s) prices are outstanding, (their) service is phenomenal and (their) attitude is unbeatable,” wrote one shopper. “I plan to return the favor by becoming a regular customer.”

DrillSpot.com sells a wide variety of home improvement, industrial, and MRO products. With inventory expanding daily, products range from programmable thermostats to Zoeller pumps, and include well-respected brands like Lithonia lighting, Broan, and Intermatic timers.
